HighLights:

1.        “safety” measure that will take effect in 2026 (right now it’s optional)

These devices have been installed for years in American Vehicles since 1998. They were originally installed as safety devices in the event of fuel spills or electrical fires. With the rollout of OnStar the same year, the software became sophisticated enough collect much more data (Location, speed, etc.) and have the capability to shut off the vehicle remotely.

I am uncertain how many foreign vehicles at the time had them installed as well, but if it had OnStar capabilities, then it’s certain. Where America goes, others follow, so please be aware.
